Adult Education Organizations

There are some people in the world today, who have problems with reading. Especially the ones, who read at the very lowest level, find help from literacy programs on voluntarily basis. For adults at the 6th grade level, or even below, there are offered special programs, which provide small group sessions and one to one tutoring. These programs are administered in some school systems, as also by nonprofit organizations across the country.

For the local volunteer programs, there is a national organization, named “ProLiteracy Worldwide”. It provides accreditation, tutor certification, and training to these programs.

Literacy Florida Inc. is a state organization. It offers to the voluntary literacy programs, many field services. If some adults have dropped out their high school, they have to pass the GED (General Education Development) test. These programs are in U.S.A., and passing the test is the equivalent of the high school diploma.

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), is another sector of the adult education. It is a very fast growing system, and gains more and more popularity in the United States. This program is also famous as ELL (English Language Learners), and ESL (English as a Second Language). The main purposes of such courses are to help and make easier the process of acclimation of the immigrants to the United States, as also to help their acquisition of the English language.

The so called “Continuing education” program offers post-secondary learning activities, having an all encompassing term within a broad spectrum. In the activities of the program, are included non-traditional student courses for degree credit, workforce training, self-directed learning (it takes place in Internet groups, and includes individual or club research activities), courses for formal personal enrichment (they take place on campus, as also online), career training (with no degree), and applied to problem solving experiential learning.
